Literature Analysis#2

The book I choose was The Circuit by Francisco Jimenez. This story is based on true events. It’s about a young man coming over from Mexico not knowing any English or not knowing anybody. The young man and his family stayed in a place called Tent City. He watched over his younger siblings. His father’s job was to pick cotton from the cotton field and his mother’s job was to make dinner for the workers after they got out of work. Francisco went to school and did very well.
The theme of the story is to not take anything for granted because we have the opportunity to make something of ourselves. As in other country’s some people aren’t that lucky. Francisco had little toys, clothes and food. But he had his family who always gave him love and support. His family support helped him get through the hard times.
I choose this book because it relates to my family. They came here from Mexico with very little. They stayed in Guadalupe. They are from Jalisco, Mexico. My father told me how the struggle is in Mexico. People over there are poor and don’t have jobs so therefor they come to the United States illegally to have a better life.
I found this book real because 90% of the people I know have gone throw this.  It is very hard to stay here without legal papers. They want a better future and here we provide an education, money ,and food for those in need. In other countries they don’t think the same.
The tone of this book would be dramatic in our eyes because we haven’t been in that type of situation. How the way the author describes his lifestyle is harsh. Nobody would want to sleep on the cold cement ground with one blanket.

Task one: Survival Basics.

In Ali S. Khan’s fiction entitled Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse, he states that we have to be prepared for a real emergency/situation.The author supports his claim by giving us advice on how to be prepared. Khan first talked about how to create an emergency kit.  He stated that you need the following: water, food, medications, clothing, bedding and important documents. He persuaded us by stating “...to get through the first couple of days before you can locate zombie-free refugee camp.” The author next proceeds to show that it is always an advantage to have an emergency plan. First off you need to identify the emergency crises. Next you need to pick a meeting place for you and your family. After, gather your emergency contacts. Finally, plan your evacuation route. Khan states “when zombies are hungry they won’t stop until they get food...” Finally the author agrees that CDC is prepared for any disaster. They are there to provide technical assistances, medical help , investigate viruses and to isolate the infected. Khan states,“ If zombies did start roaming the street, CDC would conduct an investigation much like any other disease outbreak.”

5 Things To Do To Improve Your Batting Skills

Stefani Murguia
10/21/13
Block 3

Five Things You Can Do To Improve your softball hitting.

1. Use the Fast Part of Your Feet.  “Too many times a hitter will get into her stance and put her weight on the back part of her foot over her heel, instead of using the fast and powerful front part of her foot” (Bristows). If you are balance your weight on your back foot it gives you more power when you swing.

2. Visualization. “Hitters should take as many swings off a tee, if not against live pitching, as possible”.(Mahoe). But what if your team doesn't have the capability to have each player take that many cuts off a tee or live pitching during practice. Even if there is only one tee for players to hit off the other players can still practice their hitting technique. Have players get into their stance with the bat and visualize a pitcher pitching to them. They should go through their routine of starting outside the batters box then stepping in and getting ready for the pitch .

3. Drive Forward. “Hitters really want to twist sideways instead of allowing their power to drive forward toward the pitcher and the ball.” Bristows. Again, the power pod really helps the hitter feel the forward or linear movement and will really expose those hitters that stay back and twist throughout their swing. To do this have your hitters get into their stance with the power pod under their back foot and then push down 4-5 times into the Pod. This will really allow their legs to relax, loosen up and feel the forward direction from the power pod.

4. Push Instead of Pull. This is an interesting one but many hitters feel that their stride foot pulls them forward instead of allowing their backside to push or drive them forward through the swing. Hitters need to keep their weight over their back foot during the stride and then use their back foot to push forward behind their hands, this is adding power to their swing. “This is how you have a stronger swing. When you use your back leg it is like squishing a bug , you need to twist and drive.” Bristows.

5.Stance. A batter's stance in the box is always determined by that player's comfort level. “Some batters will sit deep in the box and take a step forward to help create their hip rotation. “ (Cooper). Many batters will step in and settle for a position that does not require them to move their plant foot. The key to stance is comfort and hitter's need to develop a stance that allows him to bat with comfort and confidence.

My favorite mistake.

Ding , Dong , RUN!
One sunny day, I had just got done with a softball game. All the girls were together talking about our errors. Someone decided to have a sleepover that night ,everybody was super excited. a parent volunteered to have it at her house (which is Natalie's parents). She lives in a huge two story house in West-gate. That house is a mansion in my eyes. All the girls said yes that sounds like a great idea. We all went home showered and took off. i was the first to arrive, then after me everybody showed up. there was a total of 15 girls. We were hanging out watching T.V bored out of our mind and someone decided to have an idea of going ding , dong ditching. We all begged my mom to let us go and she said yes and just to be careful. So here we have 15 girls walking down the streets in dark clothes. Yeah, just a little suspicious.

It was about 8:30 P.M and we decided to go knock on a house with a truck and a BMW parked outside. I told everybody
“once they run back, run like the wind! We don't want to get caught.”
Angelique calming telling her sister “Stay with me I do not want to lose you”.
Two of the fastest girls went to go knock and the rest of us stayed and hide in bushes. They knocked and then hysterically were laughing and running.
After they had knocked I said “Did you guys hear someone yelling?”.
“No you are just hearing stuff” , Hannah said.

About 10 minutes after looking for another house we seen that same truck that had been parked in front of the house driving with the window down like if he was looking for someone. The truck was old and rusty. The man stopped and started yelling his lungs out at us. We all looked at each other and everybody had fear in their eyes. We ended up splitting up and we were trying to get away from the man, I managed to stay with 3 girls. I hid under a car. The man seen my friends hiding , he got out and started yelling again.I remember seeing the man, he was tall Caucasian and he had tattoos running down his arm. he kinda looked like Ozzy Osbourne.I was so frightened I  thought he was going to kidnap us. This is my biggest phobia, I got out of the area and found my way back.  I was crying and shaking. I ran inside the house and told my mother
“ MOM! There is a man trying to take us!”
“What!?” , My mother said.
I repeated myself. I told her where to find the girls.
“Call 911 and stay upstairs!” my mother stated.
The cops came and had pick up the girls. They found the truck and the driver.
“We interrogated the man and he is the neighborhood watch. He said he was just trying to spoke you guys.” the officer stated.
“That was not just a scare he put my daughters safety in jeopardy!” my mother said.
“He did not make any crimes so therefore we can not charge him with anything.” said the officer.

The officer left and we all just started crying and where very shocked about what had just happened. What i have learned from this experience was to think twice about things because anything can happen at anytime.

Antigone compare and contrast essay

Stefani Murguia
10/8/2013
In Antigone by Sophocles, this play is about a young girl doing what she believes in and gets punished in the result of death. The two characters, Creon and Antigone both have opposite emotions. They have different perspective of thing. These characters end as a result of having similarity’s because Creon eventually has a warm heart.
In the story Antigone , there are two sisters who care about each other but their ideas change throughout the story. Antigone loves her family dearly. She would do anything for them. Antigone says “you shall not lesson my death by sharing it.” (155) this states that Antigone did not want Isneme to take part in burying her brother Polynieces. Antigone’s punishment was death. Isneme felt alone and did not want her sister to die. Antigone rather to staying loyal to the gods then the law. She believes that a soul shall not rest without a proper burial. So she took matter into her own hands. In scene two Antigone go caught burying her brother and was sent to Creon to seek her punishment. Creon was loyal to the state because he was to decide what was going to be Antigone’s punishment. He doesn’t rely on the gods or feels bad for Polunieces. He thinks it’s a crime to be loyal to the gods and not the state. Creon says “And yet you dared defy the law” (L64). This shows how Creon feels about disobeying the law. Creon also says “Go join them; if you must have your love. Find them in hell.”(L135). Creon was a cold blooded man and only want punish people. These two character are different in their personality and thoughts.
Antigone Antigone was very happy that Creon was going to let Isneme go. She was proud of herself of taking the blame. Antigone says “Because I would not transgress the laws of heaven” L(75) , to Creon because she is thinking what goes around comes around. Creon was to die as well. Creon was like Antigone when he heard his son was supposed to get married to her. Creon found sympathy and only banished Antigone to a tome where she was to slowly die. They have similarities because they both change thought.
Each character deserves some of the blame because the state law where very crucial to families and victim of crime. If Antigone wasn’t so defensive about her religion it wouldn’t have ended up this way.

Literature Analysis

In the book "Fake ID" the plot is about Chasity Pureheart who randomly moved place to place with her mother. One night chasitys mother went out grocery shopping and never returned. The next day a sheriff found the mothers car abandon and found the mothers purse. He searched it and found a lot of fake identifications. The officer was aggravated and told chastity she had 10 days to find her mother. In these days a series of events happens : she gets kidnapped , killed somebody , got shot at , & was asked to play at a bar. At the end of the story Chastity eventually  reunited with her mother and lived happy.
I believe the theme of the story mid to enjoy life as you have it because in the matter of seconds that can change dramatically.
The authors tone in this book was very mysterious and always had you thinking. For example the author says "I looked over his shoulder and seen the SUV parked just look at me" (PG.163) this quote had me think what was going to happen? Are they gonna kidnap her again? The author also uses a lot of dramatic tones ; "we heard a loud BANG! Then we ran out of the abandon house." There is a lot of excitement and internal conflict in this book.
Some of the language that the author used to help me understand the theme of this book was some of the modern day teenagers tone. I can relate to the tone and got a better understanding of it because we have the same sense of humor. On a rate from 1-10 I would rate this book a 10. I recommend this book to students that like action and adventure in the reading.

  1.   If you had three wishes, what would they be?  Why?  (No wishing for more wishes.)  Explain each response.
  2.    Is there anything that you are superstitious about?  Explain.  (If not, explain why not.)
  3. If I was to have 3 wishes my first wish would be to fly because you have a lot of freedom. My second wish would be to have never ending money because I would love to help people in need. My 3rd wish would be to have Channing Tatum as my husband. Why , why not ... He is super cute. I am superstitious about the zombie apocalypse because what if it does happen and millions of people are not prepared. I'm not prepared also all I have is my bat. We would have to start collecting food , toilet paper , guns etc.
