In Antigone by Sophocles, this play is about a young girl doing what she believes in and gets punished in the result of death. The two characters, Creon and Antigone both have opposite emotions. They have different perspective of thing. These characters end as a result of having similarity’s because Creon eventually has a warm heart.
In the story Antigone , there are two sisters who care about each other but their ideas change throughout the story. Antigone loves her family dearly. She would do anything for them. Antigone says “you shall not lesson my death by sharing it.” (155) this states that Antigone did not want Isneme to take part in burying her brother Polynieces. Antigone’s punishment was death. Isneme felt alone and did not want her sister to die. Antigone rather to staying loyal to the gods then the law. She believes that a soul shall not rest without a proper burial. So she took matter into her own hands. In scene two Antigone go caught burying her brother and was sent to Creon to seek her punishment. Creon was loyal to the state because he was to decide what was going to be Antigone’s punishment. He doesn’t rely on the gods or feels bad for Polunieces. He thinks it’s a crime to be loyal to the gods and not the state. Creon says “And yet you dared defy the law” (L64). This shows how Creon feels about disobeying the law. Creon also says “Go join them; if you must have your love. Find them in hell.”(L135). Creon was a cold blooded man and only want punish people. These two character are different in their personality and thoughts.
Antigone Antigone was very happy that Creon was going to let Isneme go. She was proud of herself of taking the blame. Antigone says “Because I would not transgress the laws of heaven” L(75) , to Creon because she is thinking what goes around comes around. Creon was to die as well. Creon was like Antigone when he heard his son was supposed to get married to her. Creon found sympathy and only banished Antigone to a tome where she was to slowly die. They have similarities because they both change thought.
Each character deserves some of the blame because the state law where very crucial to families and victim of crime. If Antigone wasn’t so defensive about her religion it wouldn’t have ended up this way.
